Spring Picnic 7th September 2007

Dear Nagarathars,

Thanks for all who responded to our previous mail and as most of the members preferred 7th Sept 2007, this year's Spring Picnic will be held at Chipping Norton Lakes (near Liverpool) on the same day. Other members please RSVP one of our program coordinators given below before 22nd Aug 2007 regarding their participation in the picnic.

The parks is only 25 minutes drive from Paramatta or 40 mins from Sydney CBD ( actually CBD will be "closed" for APEC summit). So please do try to make it for the picnic.

Dr. Lakshmanan Visit 26th May 2007

Dear Nagarathars,

Dr.N.Lakshmanan Chettiar, Adelaide is visiting Sydney this weekend and likes to meet all Sydney Nagarathars. So we are planning to organize a get-together this Saturday evening (26th May 2007) possibly in a Hall (based on availability) or alternative place.

Tamil Newyear Camp 2007 13th April 2007

Dear Nagarathars,

After a successful and exciting camp last year, the Nagarathar Sangam Australia is conducting the Tamil New Year camp this year at:

From: Friday 13th April 7 PM To: Sunday 15th April 5 PM
Full Fee: $30 per person for stay either two nights or one night.
Food expense will be approximately $15 per person per day
(breakfast, lunch, coffee & dinner).
No fee for kids below 5 years of age.
Day visit fee: $15 per person per day including food. No fee for kids below 5 years of age.
Food will be prepared by the participants at the camp site.

We are in the process of preparing food menu and program schedule which will be communicated to the participants.

Activities during the Tamil New year weekend Camp:

  • 1. Visiting Sri Venkateshwara Temple , Helensburgh on the Tamil New Year day.
  • 2. Various Family Entertainment Activities and Fun programs throughout the weekend for all age groups.
  • 3. Various Group Activities (indoor and outdoor).
  • 4. Opportunity to meet and spend time with Nagarathar families on the Tamil New Year Weekend.
  • 5. Bush walking
  • 6. Camp Fire .
  • 7. Visiting various sites in and around camp area. And More..

Australia Cleanup Day 2007 4th March 2007

Dear Nagarathars,

Greetings from NSA. As part of involving our group with the Australian community, it has been planned to involve in Australia Clean up Day (March 4) activities this year. Sorry for the short notice.

Keeping in mind that many members live around Paramatta, Paramatta Park has been chosen as the venue. It will be 4 hours commencing at 7.30 am this Sunday, March 4. Main activities involve clean up of the Creek adjoining Paramatta Park. Volunteers need to wear protective clothing, water-proof covered shoes, hats, sunscreen lotion and gloves. We have spoken to the site co-ordinator and will send out the flyer to interested volunteers. Please find below the link to the site which provides further details.

Pilliar Nonbu 2006-2007 26th December 2006


Dear Nagarathars,

Nagarathar Sangam Australia invites you all for this Pillayar Nonbu Celebration to be held on 26th December 2006.

Here are the details:
Date: Tuesday, 26th December 2006
Time: 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm
Venue: Uniting Church Hall , Frances Ave, South Strathfield

Cost: $10.00 for families and 5.00 for singles

Food: by courtesy of all families

Food item(s) to families will be decided by draw system (kulukal) as usual. Please send RSVP on or before 11th December 2006 and kulukal will be conducted on 16th December 2006. Kulukal location will be informed closer to the date. Members may please be advised that this year Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be conducted after pooja. Dewali get-together - 21st October 2006


Dear Nagarathars,

Hope all had a good break. Diwali is only 3 weeks away. We cordially invite all Nagarathars who happen to be in Sydney on the 21st of October (Saturday) to celebrate Diwali together at Mrs and Mr. Muthuraman's house in Epping. We thank Mrs and Mr. Muthuraman for agreeing to host the evening celebrations at their residence.

The evening starts with a special pooja at a temple followed by Diwali celebration and dinner at Mrs and Mr. Muthuraman's residence. Expenses are to be shared among all participating Nagarathars.

It is also planned that participants will bring food from home, so we can all share the pleasure of having each others home-made food. Program coordinator will contact all interested participants to coordinate food and sweet preparation.

Lecture on "The Chettiar Heritage" at Sydney


Dear Nagarathars,

Mr. S. Muthia, a Historian and Journalist, gives a lecture on "The Chettiar Heritage" on Saturday 8th April 2006 from 7.00 to 9.00 PM at Homebush Boys School, Bridge Street, Homebush, NSW- 2140.

This program is organized by Nagarathar Sangam , Australia . (NSA) and Sydney Tamil Heritage Study Group. This would be a very good opportunity to our young generation to know about Nagarathar.s historical background and richest culture. Since the speech will be on English, it is good chance to invite your friends, who will be interested in knowing our culture. Please consider this as an invitation and make it this as a one more successful event.
